At Alvey Farms, we found ourselves in a bit of a pickle. Our favorite spatula was made from cheap plastic. It was the perfect length and shape, but it was slowly disintegrating over time, especially in our cast iron cookware. People who like particles of plastic in their food would not consider this an issue, but we felt like a change needed to be made.
Being wary of the chemicals loaded up in most wooden utensils sold in stores, we chose to take the most logical solution to our utensil problem: we became woodworkers. We fitted up a woodshop, learned about the variety of great local woods and practiced the techniques for making sturdy, safe kitchen utensils. Little by little, we replaced all of our utensils with wooden ones, and now we’re eager to continue sharing what we’ve learned.
Our utensils are cast-iron safe. They are free from all chemicals, including the ones you’d never want touching your food - no formaldehyde here! Every piece sold by Alvey Farms is handcrafted thoughtfully with functionality and healthfulness in mind.
Crafted from Kentucky cedar
This is the Alvey Farms original. Every spatula is crafted after our old favorite that needed to be replaced. This short-handled design gives you good control over whatever grub you’re flipping, stirring, or serving!
Crafted from Oak, Cedar, or Walnut.
We designed them with bacon-flipping in mind. (These narrow tongs are perfect for grabbing each strip!) However, less carnivorous fans have pointed out that they’re great for grabbing toast, too.
Crafted from Oak, Walnut and you can pick three different sizes.
Some hipsters use them as plates, and normal people use them for cutting up food. Whatever works for you - we won’t judge. Choose from a variety of sizes and designs!
Everything we create at Alvey Farms is finished in a food-safe and chemical-free cutting board oil (or mineral oil). You can find the oil at any big box store and apply a light coat any time the wood seems to be losing its rich color. Make sure to never put your wooden items in the dishwasher or you will become a sad chicken.
